Sunday!

its a sunday but there is no sun. all thats there is fog outside. but still a sunday is good.
comes after a long wait of 7 days and finishes in just one day!
we have just one day off in a week, unlike many others who enjoy 2 days off ,every week, seems unjust! but if someone asks me to exchange places for getting a 5 day week, i will think twice and surely refuse.
here, the working hours are from 8:30 AM to 1:30PM and thats it! only sometimes there is a need to go to office in the evening and that too for a short while ! so the evenings are usually free and that means a lot!

worth reading!

i read this somewhere and i want people to read this, its worth reading twice!
The Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle,
When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,
Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class
and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
And proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students, if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively
filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - family,
children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions –
Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' He continued,
there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play With your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal..

'Take care of the golf balls first --
The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.
'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

Please share this with other "Golf Balls"

am i forgetting the art?

i am working independently for the past 5 years , without any guidance or supervision or any superior being available at hand and i am reading the text books only irregularly!
i just look after the daily OPD patients, Say 15 to 20 on each working day and do the routine dental procedures like extractions, restorations, RCT and removable Prosthodontics!
Lately , i have started to realize that i have lost some confidence, when dealing with oral surgery cases. i find it particularly difficult to extract upper first molars.
earlier, i never felt like that about any extraction procedure.
what can be the reasons? what should i do?

Dental college and life in Jaipur.

after completion of my BDS in just less than 7 yrs, i joined as a tutor in a private dental college in jaipur, India.
the college job paid me just 8000 rupees each month and free accommodation in the college hostel, which in itself was fun. but rs. 8000 was not sufficient for me.
i was thinking of ways and means to increase my income and one option was to join some private clinic in the evening but the college was 20 km away from the city and it was not easy to get a conveyance while returning back in the evenings, sometimes as late as 10 pm.
two place-type friends of mine, who had joined the same college and staying in the same hostel , eventually migrated to the city and left the hostel accommodation!
but the rents were as high as rs.2000, almost a quarter of my salary, so i had to retain the hostel and find some sort of work in the evenings!
slowly and gradually, a year passed away and i could not find a part time evening job that suited me! one gentle man offered me rs. 3000 fixed but he wanted me to work at his clinic till 9 pm. work, i would but then , i have to live in the city and not in the college hostel, 20 km away, i told him.
he promised to help me find a room in the vicinity but the rental was almost equal to what he had offered! whats the use!
then, after completing almost a year in Jaipur, i managed to find a clinic which offered me what i had wanted and i joined that clinic.
the daily routine was like this: lunch in the hostel dining hall at about 1400hrs ,then back to college, which was till 1500 hrs then catch the college bus to city, reach the clinic at around 1600 hrs and work there till 1930hrs, and then reaching back to college at around 2100hrs and have dinner in the room, where somebody used to keep it for me, as the mess was closed by then.
this went on for about a month and one fine day, i came to know about my selection in the Army Dental Corps.
I told both my employers about it and one was happy to relieve me, the other was more than happy for me!
i joined my new job within a fortnight.
i had to join a private clinic in the city to increase my income. the evening

scooter!

i had a bajaj scooter that i purchased in oct 2008 from a the used-bikes market in kapurthala, as i came here on posting! it was in good condition and had a mileage of about kmpl.
it was used frequently and served me well when my dental office was in the old location , about 5 km from my residence but in may 2009 the dental center was relocated to a new , bigger accommodation which was just about 100 meters from my residence and the use of scooter for going to office was stopped.
however i, frequently used it for going to market ,mosque etc.
my parents visited me here in Kapurthala in may 2009 and on th may 09, when my father and myself were returning back to home after prayers ,on the scooter, the rear tyre burst and i could not balance the scooter, as we were riding at not-so-slow speed!
the engine of the scooter is on one side and its difficult to balance in such a condition as tyre burst!
the scooter did a u turn on the road, as i hastily applied brakes but my father got a fracture of the long bone of left leg (femur).
the vacation turned out to be a bad one and after 10 days of hospitalization and a surgery, father came back home, using a walker.
i had decided to sell away the scooter asap, as i was never again comfortable on that scooter.
i sold it to an agent in the same market and it was a good riddance i believe!
